Guest Wishlist
Lets shoppers save products to a wishlist without creating an account or logging in.
Overview
Most shoppers browse before they buy — and many browse before they even create an account. Guest wishlist lets anyone save products right away, and automatically merges those saved items into their account the moment they log in or register.
Benefits
- Removes the biggest barrier to using a wishlist: requiring an account
- Captures interest from first-time visitors, not just returning customers
- Automatically carries guest saves over to the customer's account after login — nothing is lost
Where to Find It
Apps ↓ BRIX: Wishlist Plus ↓ Settings ↓ Features tab ↓ Guest wishlist
How to Use
- Open the app and go to Settings.
- Find Guest wishlist under the Features tab.
- Toggle it on (this is the default) or off.
- Click Save.
There is no separate customization screen for this feature — it's a simple on/off toggle.
Available Settings
| Setting | Description | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Guest wishlist | Allows shoppers who aren't logged in to create and use a wishlist | On |
Best Practices
- Leave this on unless you have a specific business reason to require accounts (for example, a members-only or wholesale store).
- If you turn this off, make sure your account creation/login flow is fast and easy — every wishlist attempt by a guest will otherwise hit a login wall.
Notes
- How guest identity works: the first time a guest saves an item, their browser is given a private identifier stored locally. This identifier is tied to that browser only — it is not synced across devices, and clearing browser data will lose the guest's wishlist (unless they log in first).
- Merging on login: when a guest logs into or creates a customer account, their guest wishlist items are automatically copied into their account's wishlist. If they already had wishlists on their account, the guest's items are merged in rather than replacing anything — guest items with the same list name are combined into the matching account list, and any other guest lists are added as new lists. This merge happens silently in the background, with no message shown to the customer.
- Inactivity: a guest wishlist that hasn't been touched in over 12 months is treated as expired. This is invisible to the shopper — no error is shown; a new guest wishlist is simply started if they return after that period.
- When turned off: guests can't create or add to a wishlist at all. Every wishlist button and the floating button/header icon show a "Login required" message instead, prompting the shopper to log in.
Troubleshooting
A customer says their wishlist "disappeared." If they were shopping as a guest on one device/browser and are now checking on another device, or cleared their browser data, their guest wishlist won't carry over unless they log in on the original device first.
Guests can't save anything to their wishlist. Check that "Guest wishlist" is turned on in Settings.
A customer's guest items didn't appear after they logged in. The merge happens on their next page load after logging in — ask them to refresh the page or reopen the wishlist.
